Push buffer detent in and remove buffer and spring and set aside. With the lower on an AR15 lower receiver vise block, loosen stock castle nut with a tele stock wrench. Screw the castle nut all the way back and pull the end plate back exposing the takedown pin spring and pull the takedown spring out and set aside.
Hold your thumb over the buffer retainer and unscrew the buffer tube. Once it is backed off of the buffer retainer slowly release the buffer retainer but leave it in the lower. Remove stock and remove the stock endplate and install the QD endplate so it looks like this.
Screw buffer tube back onto rifle all the way in until it comes up to the buffer retainer. Then press the buffer retainer back in and screw the stock around until it goes over the shoulder of the retainer enough to hold it in the rifle but not so far that the retainer binds against the tube. Now put the takedown pin spring back in its hole in the receiver and carefully push the QD endplate up to the receiver.
Compress the spring into the receiver without bending it over and screw the castle nut up to the back of the endplate. Make sure the stock is straight and tighten the castle nut up against the endplate. I put my AR together a couple years ago, but needed a refresher on how to replace the endplate. You got straight to the point, and were still able to properly convey all the info needed.
What's the purpose of a non functional end plate. Just for color accent, if so, I agree, looks good. But I'm installing one for a one point sling Q.
Not sure why but when I replaced the factory mil spec receiver plate and installed a new one for a single point sling mount I started to have problems racking charging handle while function checking the rifle. I did everything properly and in order but the bolt would move back ever so slightly before hitting something preventing me from racking the rifle. I assumed it was maybe the re-installation of the buffer retaining pin hitting the back of the bolt but when I switched back to the original end plate I had no problems what so ever.
Can someone help me with what this may have been? I even order a mew one and it stick out too much,I end up cutting it. This video was extremely helpful to me in answering my questions in regards to changing out my end plate. I appreciate the detail in explaining each step and the things to watch out for in doing so. Springs etc. I have my qd endplate ordered and will be doing the job soon.
Thank you! I bought a sbpdw brace for my ar pistol but the buffer tube doesn't have a reciever end plate notch cut thru the threads? Easier step that I found out is to just tape the spring and detent hole and just keep them in there. Awesome video, I just built my first AR. After messing around with the buffer tube the spring shot out to the moon. I ordered a replacement kit with a few springs and detents just in case.
I put one of your grips on my minimalist AR's with a skeleton stock and it works well. Do you know of any stocks with an adjustable cheek weld that necks down enough to allow getting your hand between it and your stock? So are these grips actually California compliant?
